Shopping for school supplies got me thinking about the upcoming school year, which in turn got me thinking about the importance of NAFSA —the Association of International Educator—to international education. Now more than ever, NAFSA helps international students and the staff and educators that work with them succeed in a complicated environment. Our current administration’s efforts to make life in America more difficult for immigrants extends to international students, so those students rely on the good people who make up NAFSA on their campuses around the country.
Because of that and the strong relationships we’ve made, I look forward to NAFSA conferences each year and recently attended its national conference in Washington, D.C., which was amazing. It was great to be around so many smart, committed people who work to support international education, and it felt good to be around people who are dealing with many of the same challenges we are in New Orleans.
One of the highlights was once again teaming up to host a reception with LewerMark, which provides health insurance for international students. It was great to get a chance to catch up with friends and meet some impressive new people at the beautiful Smithsonian Institution Building, appropriately known as “The Castle.” It was an amazing setting for a reception and a great night.
