These days, people who know what we do for a living ask how we're holding up with genuine concern. It was great to be in San Diego last week for NAFSA's national conference because people in an organization made up of people who work on international education have had the same experiences and anxieties.
For us, it was a great week for community, seeing long-time friends and making new ones. It was a great occasion to recharge our batteries, and it reminded us that we have a lot of company in the fight with us as we deal with our current administration's predictably unpredictable approach to immigration law.
One of the highlights of the week was the party that GSI co-hosted with our friends at Sprintax and Lewermark Student Insurance. Hard to imagine a more dramatic setting for a party than the USS Midway, and as a byproduct, it gave Colleen and I chance to live out a Top Gun moment and get our picture taken in the cockpit of a fighter with "Goose" and "Maverick" by our seats. We felt a need for speed.
It will be hard to find as cool a location next year when NAFSA will take place in Orlando, Florida, but we're looking for to seeing all of you again then if not sooner. And I suspect we'll have a lot to talk about!
