Recently, I posted on Facebook a New York Times podcast on the sanctuary movement. Recently, 99 Percent Invisible went into greater detail about the origins of the sanctuary movement, which led to the “sanctuary city” concept. 99 Percent Invisible is one of my favorite podcasts, and it usually tells design and architecture stories. This two-parter focuses on the church that housed undocumented immigrants in the 1980s and its pastor, who didn’t just welcome Nicaraguans fleeing punishing regimes but went to Mexico to get them.
